What to Pack

Cuernavaca is located at 5,200 feet above sea level and blessed with an almost perfect climate. In fact it is called the City of Eternal Spring! Lightweight clothes are suggested for most of the year. From December through February the weather is cooler so bring slightly heavier clothes and a sweater or jacket. May through September is the rainy season in Mexico, with showers in the evening, so a raincoat and/or umbrella are necessities. It’s quite warm in April and May before the rainy season begins.

We suggest that you dress modestly in Mexico. Mexican men tend to dress in slacks and button-down shirts. Women tend to wear dresses, skirts, and slacks. Around the school and with your host family shorts are fine, but around town you are better off in slacks or dresses/skirts. Short shorts or revealing tops are out of place. Comfortable walking shoes are a must. Two pairs are even better.

Laundry facilities are available in the neighborhood. Some host families have clothes washing facilities at their house.

    Items we suggest you pack:
  • Cellphone with Mexico calling plan
  • Small backpack
  • Sunscreen
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Travel size toiletries
  • Water bottle
  • Supply of prescription medication to last your entire stay
  • Over the counter medicine–these are available in Mexico but you may want to bring a small supply of some medicine/first aid items or a larger supply of toiletry items if you must use a specific type or brand as they may not be available in Mexico.
  • Cold/cough remedies
  • Pain killer–Motrin/Tylenol/Aspirin
  • Antacid–Tums/Pepto Bismol
  • Mild laxative
