Cemanahuac is situated on a quiet street in the Las Palmas neighborhood of Cuernavaca. The downtown area is one mile north, about a 20 minute walk. Cuernavaca is called the city of eternal springtime because perched at 5,200 ft, it has a warm and agreeable climate year round. It is easy to get to from Mexico City, with the Mexico City airport only a 90 minute drive.

The school buildings are nestled in a garden with palm, African tulip, citrus, and many other types of trees providing shade. Thirty-five classrooms are sprinkled around the property, some in covered palapas, others in indoor/outdoor rooms. We also have an extensive library, a snack bar, a swimming pool, and a nice rooftop area for bird-watching or a quiet place to study.

The helpful and attentive staff will answer all your questions and make sure the details are in place for a productive and enjoyable stay. Many students return again and again because of the quality of the teaching and tours as well as enjoying staying with a Mexican family and visiting Cuernavaca. Let us answer any questions you have.

I recently spent a week at Cemanahuac Spanish School, and the experience was bar none some of the best teaching I've encountered — maybe ever. I've been trying to sharpen my Spanish comprehension for years and always seem to hit a wall with grammar and sentence structure.

As an intermediate student, I found the sessions dedicated to speaking practice extremely helpful for my confidence. Paired with intensive grammar work, they complemented each other and accelerated the learning curve. I had previously studied in San Miguel de Allende — a beautiful town, but the quality and teaching method at Cemanahuac were superior in every way. Cuernavaca also offers very few opportunities to fall back on English, since most of the tourists are Mexican. It's a breath of fresh air when people reply in Spanish, and it pushes your learning forward.

The excursions were genuinely interesting, and Charlie's vast knowledge of Mexican history and the town is a treasure trove for anyone keen to take a deep dive. I also chose the homestay option. My host's home was a quick walk to school, my host was a great conversation partner, and the meals were delicious.

If you're looking to expand your Spanish skills, I highly recommend this school. The setting is idyllic and the teachers are outstanding.  — Hilary Garner, June 2026
